Hi and Happy New Year to all. We just got back from Cayo Largo this morning.Had a wonderful time there again,as usual. But it was getting there and back that was bad,a 6 HOUR DELAY EACH WAY.We will go back to Cayo largo again, but never again with AIR TRANSAT. Best meals were at the LINDAMAR,CAPRICHO and Iguana (good pizza at the bar).Take advantage of the free excursion to Cayo Iguana as it includes snorkling at the coral reef and sunset aboard the boat; it was great. The best beach is just past the Sol Club. It is secluded and a naturalist's paradise. Enjoy, but bring plenty of sunscreen.

Hi! Just saw messages posted on Cayo Largo - sounds amazing. We've been to Holguin and Jibacoa (amazing for it's closeness to Havana, but not Varadero!) and we're looking at Largo for this springs hol. Is it as beautiful as it sounds and looks and also which hotels would you reccommend for a 2 week stay? There's a new one (Sol Club) which is more expensive - is it worth it? tx, Caroline

Welcome back Don & Rachelle! I'm glad to read that you enjoyed your vacation!!! Too bad for the flight delay though :-( We flew with Air transat several time before, but we were "lucky", usually not more than one hour delay, except when we went to Guatemala & Honduras, we had 9 HOURS delay!!! Let me tell you that there's not much to do at Mirabel airport for 9 hours!
I agree with you, the beaches on the west side are gorgeous! Thank you very much for this trip report!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi Lily We also just returned from paradise. We had a wonderful vacation. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and great weather. We didnt take any trips this time just relaxed and walked and enjoyed the beautiful beaches. For your info and anyone else the Isla del Sur has been renovated including new pool and the Capricho huts are all new and look great. We think we will try one the next time we visit. Visitors to the new Sol Club (far too big for me)can only use the transportation and reservations at the A La Carte restaurants are as far as I could find out limited to 10 persons per night from the Sol Club) thought you might find this information useful). Our Journey there and back with Air Transat was as Don said very delayed (not good) apart from that everything was great. Cant wait for visit no 3. Happy New Year and have a wonderful vacation. Christine & Adrian.

Welcome back. I understand you stayed at the pelicana? My friend and I will be staying there in March. How was the food and service? Any information you care to share would be wonderful. Thanks Lisa

Hi Lisa.Yes, we stayed at the Pelicano hotel, which is a beautiful place with great service,as for the food it is not bad but you don't want to be a picky eater. The best meals we had were at the Lindemar, Iguana and Capricho, but we never made it to the Ilsa Del Sur so we don't know what it's like there. After 3p.m. at the Iguana they have pizza at the bar (good) We visited the Sol Club Melia, very big, nice, but we would not want to stay there. Most buildings are three floors (lots of stairs), but has the best beach. We rented a dune buggy and went up to the end of the road past the Capricho and the beach there is also very nice.there was about a 1/2 a mile of beach on either side of us and we saw only one other couple If you need any more info and think we can help just let us know, either by this great site of Lilys or by our e-mail. Have a good time in C.L. Don

Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time. My friend and I were interested in renting a dune buggy while we are there. What was the rate to rent one and what type of I.D did they require? Did you have to pay a deposite? Thanks for replying to my last message as quickly as you did. Lisa

Lisa The dune buggys have drifferent rates for the lenght of time you want it. To rent 1-3hours it is $31 for 6 hours it is $38 (don't forget every thing is in AMERICAN money) You can reserve one day in advance ,no down payment, but pay in full in cash at time of rental. All you need is a valid drivers license. They have a 4 speed manual VW engine. We took one for 6 hours and had a ball. Enjoy, Don.
