  The forest of Cayo Largo

The forest « El Bosque » of Cayo Largo. A special project for helping the environment of this island, initiated by Jorge Felix director of public relations for the Gran Caribe hotels (Villa Coral and Villa Soledad). It first took place in November 2006 exclusively for customers of these hotels. People are invited to plant a tree typical of Cayo Largo in this environmental project.

There are two types of tree, Thrinax radiata (Yuraguano) and Laguncularia racemosa (Patabán). The site is located between the hotels Villa Coral and Villa Soledad.

Here are official informations about this event ...

Here are the requirements to join this event:

  • A minimum of three stays in the hotels Villa Coral or Villa Soledad.
  • Furthermore... to love nature and be sensitive to the protection of the environment. The main purpose of this project!
  • Lily and I were happy to participate of this special project in December 2008 during our fifteen visits at Cayo Largo. We wish long live to our small « Yuraguano » tree friendly called Lino. It symbolizes our love for this small island in the Caribbean sea and above all... our love for the Cuban culture.

As you may know, Cayo Largo is often hit by strong hurricanes during the wet season and unfortunately some of these small trees are wiped out by strong winds BUT some resisted and new leaves are growing back from what it looks like a dead tree. Nature is strong!

During this event, the director of public relation of Gran Caribe gives us a diploma confirming we were part of this contribution to help preserving the environment. Click the thumbnail on your left.

IMPORTANT! Jorge Felix is no longer responsible of this project. We are waiting for more informations about the future of this project.
