Hotels at Cayo Largo, Cuba

There are presently in Cayo Largo three separate hotel groups: Gran Caribe (4 hotels), Sol Meliá (2 hotels) and Barceló (1 hotel). All the hotels have a direct access to the beach (sometimes a few stairs down). They are all located within 5 km in beach section named Playa Lindamar (between Playa Blanca and Playa Punta mal Tiempo). The hotels are 10 minutes by car from the airport, and about 15 minutes from the village & marina. They are all on the south coast of the island.

  GRAN CARIBE

A group of 4 neighbor hotels (2 and 3 stars) most of them having less than 100 rooms. This complex includes the hotels: Isla Del Sur, Villa Lindamar, Villa Soledad and Villa Coral. Please note Villa Iguana and Villa Caprichio resorts do no longer exist since hurricane Michelle in November 2001.

Since November 2004, the Villa Lindamar resort is offer exclusively to Italian tour operators as well as the Isla del Sur villaggio eden. The Canadian tour operators only offer the Gran Caribe Resort which includes Villa Soledad and Villa Coral. Note there is no service at Villa Soledad (rooms only). Villa Coral has a swimming pool, a buffet restaurant and an exterior entertainment center for night shows (since 2005).

  SOL MELIA

The two hotels at the west-end of the hotel zone, the Sol Cayo Largo and the Sol Pelicano, are both administered by Sol Meliá. The Sol Pelicano which used to be a 3-stars hotel managed by Gran Caribe was completely renovated. It reopened on December 15th, 2002. Up to May 2007, there was an Italian club « Bravo Club » (1/3 of hotel rooms) which has left the Sol Pelicano for a new destination (Africa).

These two hotels are both all-inclusive. The nautical club is now located at Playa Sirena (a more stable beach) and a transfert is included from the hotels. Please note these hotels do not share services

  BARCELÓ

Barceló Cayo Largo Beach Resort is located at the East end of the hotel zone, approximately 1 km from the Gran Caribe complex. Barceló is a 4-stars all-inclusive hotel. It opened its door on December 2003 after years of delay. Originally the hotel was part of the Bucanero project then Riu hotels and finally Barceló. Located east of the famous Villa Caprichio which no longer exist.

The beach in front of Barcelo is very fragile to strong winds, so it is common during hurricane season (fall) the beach will disappear but it recovers rapidly and then people will enjoy its white and fine sand beach, perfect for long walks, especially towards east (virgin beaches appreciated by naturists).
