East beaches (Playa Blanca, Los Cocos & Tortuga)

Recently, we incorporated new Adobe flash videos into our website, click HERE to access the index page of our videos (FLV) of Cayo Largo. (Flash player required).

These are endless beaches of fine sand and crystal-clear waters stretching on the east side of the hotel's zone. This untouched natural environment provides refuge for hundreds of birds (such as sea gulls, pelicans, cormorants, etc.), iguanas and sea turtles. Big and lazy iguanas rest on the rocks overhanging the beach. Playa Blanca has many tiny coves. The water is shallow. At Playa Tortuga hundreds of sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on the bank.

These three beaches are less wider than the ones at the West side of the Island (Paraiso & Sirena), but they offer the same quality of white sand, never too hot, and turquoise warm waters with a soft underwater incline. You can walk for hours and feel like you are alone in this world! A good place to try Naturism.

During the hurricane season (fall), these beaches are usually the most affected, so their aspect can change greatly from year to year due to beach erosion. They are virgin beaches and not clean like the beach in front of the hotels.

A long walk towards east — Playa Los Cocos (no trees, very dry environment)

The end east of Playa Tortuga (almost no beach to walk there)

To go to the east beaches...

  • By the beach (by foot):
From the hotels, you can walk for hours towards East.
  • Rented vehicule:
Jeep or scooter. Be careful if you decide to go passed the communication tower, you will have to ride on soft sand trails. When you reach the end of this path (mark by a big sign: No jeep, No buggy, No scooter) you have to continue by foot on the path or on the beach (easier).
