Unless you own a private yatch/boat, *** Flying is the ONLY way to get to Cayo Largo ***

No causeway connects this cayo with the main island of Cuba, and no other means of public transportation (such as ferry boats) is accessible to tourists. There is an international airport directly on the cayo, its name: Aeropuerto Internacional Vilo Acuña, better known as Cayo Largo Airport, IATA code: CYO, please visit our Airport section for more information.

Many international airlines offer direct flights to Cayo Largo, mainly from Canada, Europe and South America. If no flight to CYO is available from your area, then the most convenient way is to arrive in Havana and then take a domestic flight to Cayo Largo. The Cuban airline AEROGAVIOTA operates daily flights between Havana (Playa Baracoa terminal) and Cayo Largo, it's a 40-minute flight and the ticket usually includes transfers between the airport and your hotel in both Havana and Cayo Largo. To our knowledge, The Cuban airline CUBANA also offers a few flights a week from Havana (Jose Marti International Terminal) and from Varadero.

Ground transportation options between the Cayo Largo airport and your hotel:

Chartered bus:
Most tourists arriving in Cayo Largo already have the transfers pre-arranged by a tour operator and included in their vacation package. If it's your case, then when you exit the terminal you will be greeted by your Tour Operator representative who will tell you which shuttle bus to board for the transfer to your hotel.

Taxi:
You will find them in front of the Arrivals building, they usually are cars or minivans, but beware that some buses and minibuses may also offer a taxi service. So if you have a prepaid transfer be careful to get on the chartered bus indicated by your representative otherwise the transfer will be charged. A taxi ride from the airport to Cayo Largo hotels costs 5-6 USD, always agree on the fare with the driver before leaving.

Public Transportation:
There is no public transportation service in Cayo Largo; only taxis, charter buses (transfers, excursions), employees buses, and rentals (scooters and quads) circulate on the island. The Cuban national bus lines Viazul and Astro are not present in Cayo Largo.
